Hopefully you are praying with more confidence because you know that the Lord inclines His ear toward us and He hears our cries (Ps 40:1). We should have greater confidence also because the Holy Spirit helps us in our infirmities (Rom 8:26-27). Even when we don't know what or how to pray He groans on our behalf according to the will of God. There is another huge reason we should pray with confidence: we have a great High Priest. Inasmuch then as we have a great High Priest Who has (already) ascended and passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, lets us hold fast our confession (of faith in Him) - Heb 4:14 AMP. Our great High Priest is in heaven sitting right next to the Father, interceding for us. When Jesus prays for us He is not praying some general prayer; instead, He is praying on our behalf with intensity and empathy because He knows exactly how we feel, how we struggle and knows our weaknesses. Ever notice how differently you pray for someone when you have been through what they are going through? Exactly! Your prayers are specific and intense because you actually feel their pain. Jesus prays for us like that. For we do not have a High Priest Who is unable to understand and sympathize and and have a shared feeling with our weaknesses and infirmities and liability to the assaults of temptation, but One Who has been tempted in every respect as we are, yet without sinning - Heb 4:15. We can approach the throne of grace with confidence because of the intercession of Jesus. He ever liveth to make intercession for us (Heb 7:25). Let us then fearlessly and confidently and boldly draw near to the throne of grace (the throne of God's unmerited favor to sinners), that we may receive mercy (for our failures) and find grace help in good time for every need (appropriate help and well timed help, coming just when we need it) - Heb 4:16 AMP. We can go to the throne of grace and pick up exactly the grace needed for our situation that has been preordered by Jesus on our behalf. So let's prayer with greater confidence because Jesus hears us, the Holy Spirit helps us and the Jesus Christ is our Great High Priest! going to the throne with confidence, Diane |
